"Ber" Months are Here Again

It's the beginning of the "ber" months again, as we put in the Philippines. Christmas is just around the corner once again.

I miss the old, care free days of my childhood. Christmas was always my favorite part of the year. Everybody's happy. Everywhere you go, everyone's wearing a smile. Families bond together and nothing it seem, can separate them.

These days for me though, It's just work, work and more work. I hope this year, my Christmas will be different... and I hope to find more reasons to smile.

Life Goes On

Looking back through the years, I've made a great many mistakes in life and stumbled a few more a long the way, but I've never regretted any of the steps I've taken. I'm happy now more than ever and I can truly say that I've experienced what life has to offer.

At 33, I've come to terms with what and who I am. I am gay, plain and simple... and a loud one at that. A fact of my life... and no amount of trying to change who I am, or words of wisdom from my love ones, most especially my parents, and my friends, can change who I am. I've tried to act straight before, and courted girls... but the act itself left a big void in my totality. I felt like a great cheater, cheating not only those involved, but most importantly myself. The "coming into terms" was never an easy path for me. It's like carrying a huge cross on your back and walking the streets of Jerusalem, with many people mocking, cursing and spitting on you. I think I've cried me a river with the whole experience, lol. Now, I'm like a butterfly. I can be who I am with anyone I meet and I couldn't care less if they're an ass about the whole gay thing.

I've also had some notable experiences with love and relationships. In the past, I've been with people who are pathological liars, who cheated me over and over again. I've been with someone who was my world basically but cheated on me with another guy, who knew of our relationship, lol. I guess the other guy was madly in-love with my ex so he jumped into a sexual relationship with him anyway, despite him knowing that my ex and I are a couple. No one to blame but my cheating ex at that time. The last I've heard, they are now good friends, although I would never know if they truly become a couple after I ditched my ex for cheating because I cut all communications with them. I wish them all the best in life nonetheless. I was also with someone who verbally abused me for most part of our relationship. He constantly accused me of cheating, which to this day, I couldn't understand because I know that he knows that he was the only one for me during our time. The only conclusion I can come up with is that he is guilty of his own garbage, that's why he threw it all at me. I wish him all the best as well though. Our common friends said that he is now in a relationship with someone from his work. I do pray that he learned his lessons well and that he wouldn't do the things he did to me to that other person.

These days I'm thankful that I met someone who, to best describe it, is really a heaven sent. A true partner. He is my soul mate... who understands, accepts and most of all loves me for who I am. In our two years together, we weathered out the toughest storms that life threw at us. We are stronger together than ever before and we know that we will face many more bumps and humps in the future. What's important is that we are committed to face it together. I'm happy to say that we are now planning to get married in front of our families. I know that gay marriage is not recognized in the Philippines, but I say to hell with it. Migrate to the U.S. Lol.

Life, truly goes on for me... and it gets better and better everyday...

Alarming Rise of HIV Cases in the Philippines

The HIV Registry of The Philippines recently released the number of new HIV cases for the month of June 2015. An alarming 772 new cases has been registered, an all time high in the history of the country. 

This is a sad news for the country indeed. The good news is that through the efforts of the Department of Health, NGO's and concerned private individuals, more and more people are getting tested each month and as a result, more people get to know their status. Now, which ever way these Filipinos got infected is already in the past and nothing could change it. What's important is that they start treatment immediately.

Another sad fact is that members of the Filipino GBT community are the ones really hit hard by this event. Clearly, education is still lacking when it comes to HIV and AIDS.  

HIV and AIDS awareness has been THP's advocacy since the beginning of this year. HIV is really a problem and will continue to be a threat to all of us if we do not do something about it.

Know your status. Get tested. Educate yourself to fight HIV. Always wear a condom.

How Can You tell that your Partner is Cheating on You?

After months of not seeing each other, I was able to catch up with two of my best high school buddies last night and we talked about a lot of things. One topic that somehow became one of the best talk of the moment though is how to tell if someone is cheating on you.

According to my friend, her brother asked his girlfriend to give him some space. 

"Baka naman nakahanap ng bagong chinochorvah, kaya ganun!" was my other friend's reply. 

I wasn't a bit a surprise by my friend's reaction because I've had a few encounters with cheaters myself, and the one thing I've learned is that the "I need some time alone" line is the universal warning sign that something is up. Keep your radar on if he ever tells you this, gurls and gurlashes!

Quezon City Ordinance Prohibiting Discrimination

Did you know that Quezon City has a law prohibiting gay and lesbian discrimination in the work place. I never knew this until recently. At least one city in the Philippines protects and recognizes the rights of its gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.

Info on HIV and AIDS

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) do not choose. We can all get it. These are the ways we can contract the virus.

Now, Men who have sex with Men are in the "high risk" group. If you think you are at risk, these are the signs and symptoms you must watch out for (according to health.com).

HIV in the first few weeks and few months of exposure is asymptomatic, meaning you won't show any symptoms at all that you've came in contact with the virus. If you do, you might mistake it for symptoms of a common flu. The only way for us to be sure of our status is to get tested.

For the Philippines, these are the testing sites you can go to and get tested to know your HIV status (information provided by pozziepinoy and The Red Ribbon Project).

Information is the key. Knowing your status can make a big difference.

Get yourself tested  and let's help this world fight the dreaded virus!
